Ebong Amra & Tepantar Theatre Village
Established in 1994, Ebong Amra is a repertory company with 30 permanent members drawn from the local tribal community and lower-income strata. Pioneering distinctive performance aesthetics rooted in regional forms and rituals, the group has staged 31 plays, gaining recognition in India and Bangladesh. Notable productions include “Neel Piriter Ful”, “Macbeth”, and “Andha Yug”. Mentored by renowned theater personalities, the group has engaged in collaborations with international entities like The Flying Fish Theatre Company, Berlin, and the Russian Academy for Theatre Arts, Moscow. The group actively explores rural spaces for performances, aiming to establish a new language for rural theater. The ongoing development of Tepantar, a Rural Theatre Training Centre in Satkahunia, West Bengal, adds to its significance as the sole theater village and Rural Theatre Centre in the state.
Tepantar Pathshala

Our educational and cultural initiative- Tepantar Pathshala, addresses the needs of the local children. It diverges from conventional academic models, offering a comprehensive curriculum that seamlessly integrates traditional academic subjects with a rich tapestry of artistic disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of dance, explore the expressive power of music, cultivate their visual artistic talents, master the art of elocution, engage in the transformative world of theatre, and preserve the heritage of traditional craftsmanship. This holistic approach aims to nurture not only intellectual growth but also creative expression, artistic sensitivity, and a deep appreciation for cultural heritage. Tepantar Pathshala stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to community empowerment and the belief that fostering a nurturing environment for learning and artistic expression can inspire and shape the next generation of artists, thinkers, and cultural ambassadors, thereby enriching the cultural landscape of the region.

Theatre Repertory & Cultural Activities
Ebong Amra fosters artistic excellence through regular training, workshops, seminars, and classes for its members. The versatile artists showcase expertise in various disciplines, including dance forms like Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Chow, and Tribal dances. Proficiency extends to martial arts such as Kalari, Raibese, and Thangta, alongside mastery in music encompassing Folk and Tribal genres. The group’s skills also span painting and prop making. This multidimensional training equips Ebong Amra artists to create innovative performances, contributing to the unique aesthetic of the repertory company in both national and international contexts.
