Andha Yug

Synopsis

The play Andha Yug is based on the great ancient Indian epic Mahabharata. The drama starts from the 18th and the last day of the war. The war is on. The Kauravs vs. the pandavas. King Duryodhana defeated by the Pandavas. To take the revenge of his father’s killing, Aswatthama attacks with two other warriors the Pandava’s tent during midnight while they are sleeping. And kill five sons of the Pandavas. Draupadi orders her five husbands to kill Aswatthama and bring his MANI. Out of anger, Aswatthama throws the super-weapon. Byasdev requests him to withdraw but he failed to do that. The super-weapon hits the womb of Uttara. And the foetus of Parikshit gets destroyed. Lord Krishna re-injects life into that dead foetus. Due to his foeticide activity, Krishna curses Aswatthama, that, he will move around with a physically handicapped, damaged and rotten physic only. Dhritarastra, Bidur, Gandhari and Sanjay come to see the warfront. Watching the skeleton of Durjodhana, Dhritarasta and Gandhari become furious. Gandhari blames Lord Krishna for this devastating war and death of her hundred sons.

Director’s Note

This production is based on great ancient Indian epic The Mahabharata. The classical Mahabharata has been amalgamated with the contemporary politics. Though the theme based on ancient Mahabharata, but the props are all contemporary. And these modern props relate the similarity between the modern and the ancient. This is choreography, movements, physical acting based production. Various Indian forms, musical instruments and rural materials have been used in this production.
