Workshop with Folk Artist, Baul and Traditional Puppetry
From 2016 to 2019, the Tepantar Theatre Village played host to a series of enriching Theatre Workshops organized by Ebong Amra, featuring the captivating realms of Folk Art, Baul, and Traditional Puppetry. This multi-year initiative aimed at bridging the gap between traditional performing arts and contemporary theatrical expressions.
Under the aegis of Ebong Amra, participants were afforded the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Folk Art, guided by seasoned practitioners of this age-old tradition. The intricate rhythms and vibrant storytelling of Baul, a form of Bengali folk music, were brought to life in the picturesque setting of Tepantar Theatre Village. Participants were not only spectators but active participants in the preservation and evolution of these traditional art forms.
Simultaneously, the workshops delved into the mesmerizing realm of Traditional Puppetry, a time-honored craft that blends storytelling with visual spectacle. Renowned puppeteers shared their expertise, allowing participants to explore the craftsmanship behind these expressive art forms.
Ebong Amra’s commitment to cultural enrichment and preservation was evident as these workshops unfolded over the course of four years. The Tepantar Theatre Village thus became a crucible of artistic exchange, where the ancient and the contemporary converged, fostering a deep appreciation for the cultural heritage embedded in Folk Art, Baul, and Traditional Puppetry. Participants left not only with newfound skills but with a profound connection to the roots of these vibrant performing arts.
