Theatre Workshop with Nicola Pianzol
In a compelling convergence of cultures and theatrical traditions, Ebong Amra orchestrated a transformative Residential Theatre Workshop at the picturesque Tepantar Theatre Village, commencing in November 2015. At the helm of this immersive experience was the internationally acclaimed Italian theatre director, performer, and pedagogue, Nicola Pianzol. Born in 1977 in Novara, Italy, Pianzol brought a wealth of expertise, having honed his craft through rigorous training at the Nouveau Cirque school of Bologna and the Contemporary Circus School in Turin.
The workshop unfolded as a dynamic exploration of physical theatre, a genre that merges the kinetic language of the body with the narrative possibilities of performance. Pianzol’s sessions were characterized by a thoughtful interplay of demonstrations and lectures, delving into the profound relationship between space and the performer. His guidance provided invaluable insights into the nuanced artistry of physical expression, fostering a deeper understanding of how the performer interacts with and utilizes the surrounding space as an integral part of the storytelling process.
Enthusiastic students from diverse corners of the country converged upon Tepantar Theatre Village, drawn by the opportunity to learn from a maestro in the realm of physical theatre. The workshop served as a melting pot of ideas, transcending geographical boundaries to create a rich tapestry of cultural exchange. Participants not only imbibed technical skills but also gained a broader perspective on the universality of the language of theatre. The event marked a significant chapter in the cultural journey fostered by Ebong Amra, showcasing the organization’s commitment to bringing world-class mentors to the forefront of the Indian theatre scene.
